"Winter in Moscow" is a multimedia New Year's project by the Moscow City Government. The main venue is the Moscow Pioneer Palace on Sparrow Hills. The centerpiece concept for the venue is a full-scale outdoor multimedia installation — not a decorative addition to traditional New Year's décor, but an independent artistic form in its own right. The concept was developed by Maria Gudkova, a multimedia artist. As part of the project, the following elements were created on the grounds of the Pioneer Palace: a mapping show projected onto the building's façade, an "enchanted forest" featuring holographic animals (125 species from the Russian Red Book, modeled from camera trap photographs), an installation simulating the Northern Lights through projection onto fog, and an interactive multimedia bonfire with real physical heat. The entire system operates in automatic mode and generates unique visual content — a full cycle runs for six hours.
